Huffman Elementary School Reviews

We love Huffman! My daughter has been at Huffman for 4 years and my son will start in the '09-'10 school year. The teachers are fantastic and PTA is awesome!

Huffman is an amazing school where the focus is on the growth of each individual child! The Principal is always available to meet with parents or parent groups and knows all of the children. The teachers do an incredible job of delivering instruction and differentiating the instruction for the children at different levels. I love the fact that the focus is on student growth and not TAKS driven!

I have one child currently attending this school. It is nice school for the most part, not the most up to date as her other school and doesn t have the same programs that were helping her and made it convenient, but Huffman has adequate facilities and several of the staff are generally friendly towards parents. The quality of the instruction was wonderful last year. In addition, the school has higher test scores than some of the other surrounding counties. However from firsthand experience I have witnessed consistent impatience and screaming on many occasions in the lunch room, the hallways and outside. In addition, I felt my child s special attention needs were not met including more critical issues I had brought up where we needed extra help in academics and asked if I could sit with my child one on one to help improve the situation since teachers in general would need to disperse their attentions and I was told I could not. Personally I felt Huffman seemed more interested in Appearance and Image. I think there are parents and teachers who do a wonderful job. Unfortunately my child s needs have been overlooked.

Huffman is a fabulous, positive learning environment for children. The teachers care about each and every student. Everyone who has children at Huffman agrees we cannot ask for anything better!

I have had nothing but wonderful experiences here. My son has had great teachers and I cant imagine him going to another school.

Love this school! It has a modern and beautiful building but an old-fashioned caring community feel from the staff and many volunteers. The teachers really stress the importance of stretching to reach your potential in both academics and leadership opportunities. I have loved how they allow kids that have already mastered an area to do more challenging projects and explore more in-depth areas of interests. This has kept the advanced students very engaged and allowed some extra time for the teacher to work with kids that need a bit of extra help. Overall, this is a great place for a kid to grow up and be well prepared for middle school!

I have a Kindergarten student at Huffman. She loves it and has learned so much in her first year of real school. The school has a bright open atmosphere and the principal seems to know most of the students names.... very impressive. Great school!

Huffman has had some growing pains in the past few years but the Principal, Len Stevens, has given parents, teachers, and students something to cheer about. He has no fear when it comes to removing inadequate teachers, and as a result the staff is extremely caring and competent. There is a strong sense of community and partnership in the school, a very active PTA, and a renovated building that really seems to facilitate learning (computers, plenty of space, etc.). I've had kids in 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades at Huffman; they loved it and learned a lot.

Been involved with Huffman for a number of years. Strong staff and really enjoyed the teachers. Not always perfect but what is.

Huffman offers lots of after school activities! There are art classes, spanish lessons, mad science, chess club, multicultural/geography club, environmental club, honor choir, student council, cub scouts, girl scouts and tutoring offered by the Huffman staff! Some of these review are very out of date! Come check out Huffman for yourself at www.huffmanpta.org. You will find a great school with an active parent community that welcomes all students!

Huffman is a great school with lot of involvement between parents and teachers. I think the Principal knows all the students by name which shows her dedication to her profession and her students. However Huffman lacks in extracurricular activities.

School is under big changes for the better. No doubt that it is on the right tract to get it's high ratings back under the leadership a commited and dynamic principal and involved parents. Outlook is great for those who value diversity as an education on.

This is a great School. The teachers keep the parents informed and involved. They are strict but not too pushy. Children maintain a high level of expectations and praised for their efforts regularly. I highly recomend this school!

This school has an outstanding teaching staff and will have some noteworthy improvements (both capital and operational) made for the upcoming 2005-06 school year. We have had one child complete the grade levels here and presently have two enrolled with an additional one to enter within the next couple of years. The community that comprises Huffman is incredible and includes active parents, top-notch teachers, and very involved support organizations. Our family has benefited greatly from this community that has consistently sought to be inclusive of everyone.

This school needs help bad and fast. It used to be a great school but now has lost so many students that it is getting significant enrollment from outside the area. No one sends theire kids to Huffman with other choices. We transferred our kids out.

I had two children that attended this school. My experience at Huffman was the worst I have experienced at any elementary school they have attended so far. We have moved alot and they have attended five different elementary schools between the two of them. I found the general atmosphere at Huffman to be toxic. A large percentage of the teachers seemed to be constantly aggitated and frustrated. There were many disciplanary problems with the P.E. department and on the play ground. The fifth grade science department did not cover the required skills included on the taks. If anyone is seriously considering this school I would recommend checking the just4kids.org ratings. You also might want to find out why so many students have been transferred to other Plano area schools and to private schools. Meg Nordberg

I have been at Huffman for 4 years and every year has been great. We recently got a new principle and several new teachers and the energy level and enthusiam is amazing. The children seem genuinely happy and excited to be starting a new year of school. The PISD curriculum is challenging and my children are constantly learning new and exciting things in a fun and challenging environment. I highly recommend Huffman to anyone who is interested in moving into the neighborhood as a fantastic elementary school.

We currently have children attending Huffman and have for the past 3 years. We feel so fortunate that we have such a great school in our neighborhood. My kids absolutely love their school and have loved all of their teachers. I personally have had a great experience as a parent in communicating with the teachers and staff at Huffman. They really care about the children and go above and beyond to meet the needs of all students. We have a new principal as of fall 2003 and she is doing wonderful things for our school. The environment is warm and friendly and we have been pleased with the academics. Our kids are not only learning amazing things, they have learned to love school.

We count ourselves lucky to only have to have our children attend Huffman Elem. for 1 year. It was an oppresive, intimidating, unsafe environment for my chilren and others. The Principal was not receptive to parents opinions and I noticed that many of the teachers never smiled. One of the things I found most surprising was how unfriendly the mothers were. I was bothered by the extremely low parent involvement and if my husband and I would have taken the time to tour the school, we would have kept them in the private school they had been at. The truth about how poorly Huffman compares to other schools can be found in the poor proficiency scores reported for TAKS test. Go to JUST4Kids.org.
