Florence Hill Elementary School Reviews

I have been at this school for 6 years and it is the best school ever parents are involved in every way from PTA to Substituing and being active with their child.

My son is going in to second grade at Florence Hill and we have had nothing but positive experiences! The staff is wonderful and he has had 2 wonderful teachers. Parents are encouraged to get involved and help out wherever needed. I am glad that we are able to go to Florence Hill.

My son has attended Florence Hill for three years now. I have had excellent luck with teachers so far. The school has a positive attmosphere and frequent recognition for jobs well done. I have the choice of many schools, but I choose to keep him at Flo Hill. Parent involvement seems to be adequate. I work, but have no trouble staying involved.

My kids have been at this school for 4 yrs and overall I think they did ot get the best help from teachers as they fall behind it appears to many kids need tutoring and they do not have enough teachers tutoring after hours so they have to wait until there is a spot. I would be willig to offer to pay for one of the teachers there to private tutor my kids but none is offered or thy can not refer anyone. I just can't not understand why they would ot offer such a list as an additional way to supplement a teachers income and it would be worth it and my kids deserve it instead they suffer to fall behind.

My son had a great Kindegarten experience last year at Florence Hill. After relocating from New York, it was quite pleasing to find a school with teachers that care about their students. Great school, good teachers...Way to go Florence Hill.

I am sad to hear about the few 'bad experiences' at Florence Hill. I am sure every school has had their situations. We have been involved in Florence Hill for the past 6 years, and I have been very pleased with the education that my children are receiving. They both test in the top percent in the country in their grade levels. I am especially happy with the new principal, Ms. Milham. The past 2 years that she has been there we have seen an enormous improvement. The parental involvement is exceptional, and the teaching staff and administrative staff are very friendly and seem to love what they do! The teachers that we have had have been exceptional, and have lots of experience and a love for teaching! We have the means to send our children to private school, but gave Florence Hill a chance and we have been very pleased!

My children have gone to Florence Hill since Kindergarten. Their teachers have been outstanding. They have always had the highest expectations for my children. I appreciate all that my children have learned at Florence Hill.

My son attended FH for two years. The teachers are not great, but they will suffice, if you do a lot of supplemental teaching at home. His teachers spoke Ebonics in the classroom and used bad grammar with the students. They taught my son to say 'ain't' and use other such slang. He also picked up some very bad grammar habits. Needless to say, I have to teach him grammar and language arts at home. It's not a violent or drug infested school. The people there are friendly and my son loves his classmates. The campus looks nice, but the parking situation is awful. They don't really want parent involvement, except for field trips. If you want quality education, where there is lots of learning taking place, keep looking, or know that you will have to do a lot of supplemental teaching at home.

I love the 5th grade teachers. I would especially like to recommend Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Littel, they have showed such a love for teaching along with the discipline our children need. The are exceptional teachers and my daughter has excelled from recieving horrible grades in 4th grade to A Honor Roll in 5th Grade. So this example should show you how wonderful these two teachers are with the children, and how they teach our children they can excel. Thank You Mrs. Littel and Mrs. Martin for helping Taylor in the caring and nurturing way you did to help her excel this year. You both are amazing. Sincerely, Shawn Ishmael

I absolutely love this school! The communication between the teachers, administration and parents is excellent and expedient. The quality of the teachers continues to excite me because of their joy for teaching. The administration is easily accessible and completely 'hands-on'. They are more than happy to accept suggestions - from the parents, students or any other members of the community - and make sure the focus remains on the education of our children. I am proud to be associated with Florence Hill Elementary. I am confident my son is receiving the best education possible in a safe, nurturing environment.

My daughter's kindergarten year was a complete nightmare. She went through 4 different teachers within the first 6 weeks of school and when they did find a permanent teacher, I later found out that she was not certified. All of her homework always had 'smiley faces' on it, whether it was correct or not and there was no indication that the teacher was trying to let the students know what they did wrong so that they would know to do it correctly the next time. Her reading skills were well below what students of her same age were at. Thanks to a skilled teacher in her 1st grade class and some tutoring, she is now above the level she should be at and I have regained some confidence in the public school system. I'll see how her 2nd grade year goes, if I feel that she is getting behind, she will be off to private school. I just do not understand how the school district would allow an uncertified teacher to teach a class for the entire year. And to make matters worse, she still had a permanent class the next year.
