Lakeview Centennial High School Reviews

This school has mostly unexperienced teachers.

I have two children that attend Lakeview and went to school there myself. I think the school needs allot of work. They have their favorite students (such as those in the magnet programs) and if you do not fit into that category then good luck.

I think the biggest problem that our school has is not a problem that 'we' can solve, but a problem 'you' can solve. We have been attacked over and over by myths and rumors by just plain idiots. LCHS is one of the greatest schools I have been too and as the years go the school, staff, teachers and programs we offer get better and better! We have the best teachers in my opinion, many of our teachers retired from their jobs after 10-30 years of working and have decided to give us their knowledge. And of course, the best teachers are the ones that have the most experience. Lastly I would like to say I have the met the greatest friends in LCHS, to me they are like my own family.

I have a daughter who has attended Lakeview for the last 3 years. I have not had any problems here I like a lot of the programs they have at the school. As long as you are an involved parent your child should get the most out of what Lakeview has to offer.

I have a student at Lakeview Centennial High School that is entering the second year and we are looking forward to an even better year than last year which was a great and sucessful year. I have had nothing but genuine cooperation from the teachers that I have sent emails to. Through out the past school year every email was responded to; in a very timely manner. I am not trying to sell anything; it's just a fact. I was told on many occasions by the teachers that they welcome my emails and would love to have more parents interact with them. When I have had to contact Ms. Shaw in the attendance office she is professional and helpful.

I read an earlier comment about the attendance office employees and I have to disagree. Mrs. Shaw is wonderful! She has always taken the time to help me when I have received letters with mistakes about absences or even when I need to check up on my kids! She is the Best!! I would also like to comment about the whole dress code issue....enough already! Is it that important for the shirts to be tucked in and the faces to be shaved? Lets use this energy on helping the kids academically. I've watched the principals stand in the halls looking for kids 'out of dress code'. Yet certain kids were free to walk on by. I think it should be All or None! Lets be fair.

My son is a junior and is an athlete. He doesn't get special treatment as previous reviews have said. As a matter of fact the coaches are not helping at all about college. They do cater to their favorites but that doesn't apply to all in athletics. The teachers are not that great either. They do not respond to emails and hardly put in grades to check online grades. We moved to this area of schools in 5th grade and I have not been pleased with any of them,Toler or Lyles....He is passing but it isn't anything special at all.

Hi. I'm a senior at lakeview centennial High school and it really isn't a bad school. The principals do what they can to put that reputation to a screeching hault. I am in the magnet program and i am enrolled in dual enrollment, which is earning college credit while in high school. I am also part of AVID which is a college prep course. It just depends on who your son or child hangs with and what are their priorities. Don't nlame the school because they are doing their best.

I agree that Admin plays favorites with people in athletics, Cheer and Drill Team, especially students with positions. Seems like things are swept under the rug when it comes to the favorites. Other than that my daughter is getting a great education there and the teachers are always responsive to my concerns.

This is my daughter's second year here and I will be moving her to another school ASAP. Do not walk, run when it comes to this school. The admin protects abusive students if they play sports and leave the abused to feel threatened with no help.

well i really dont see how people say LCHS is a bad school.im a freshman and i thought it was going to be hard or whatever, but the school is really cool.they offer so many different things that other gisd school don't.so i dont know what all tha fuss is about.

I have 4 children to attend Lakeview and as the school strives to achieve excellence, it only worsens. The administration in this school is very disappointing that when sending e-mail you do not even get a response, why would the teachers be any different. The district has given all parents and students to online grades, but what use is it when the teachers do not use it. If there was more support from the teachers to the students this would be a much better school. I am terribly disappointed with Lakeview considering this is a College Magnet school.

Terrible! I went there my freshman year and i switched to rowlett because it was so bad! bad teachers, bad principal and no windows! i played sports and the coaches didnt care much either! dont go to lakeview, it really is that bad.

My son is a sophomore at LCHS, we moved from MISD, with hopes of getting to Rowlett HS (as Garland is freedom of choice). what they of course don't tell you is that all of the 'good' schools are full unless you live in the immediate area, so of course, now we are stuck at LCHS. although this is his first year, i am very dissappointed with LCHS lack of interest. my son came from a talented and gifted program, with a 4.0 gpa. We were accustomed to teachers that actually cared and were passionate about the subjects they taught, a clear lack at LCHS. Expectations are too low of both the teachers and the students.

This school is improving and its great with their programs

My daughter only goes there because of the Dance Magnet Program and that is the only reason why she wants to stay at LV. I have only received and email back from one teacher the rest has yet to respond. The principal seems to be ok but the teachers need to do a better job I sure hope my daughter does good with TAKS it would be a waste of School year to mess up her 3.9 gpa. If not I will definitly put her back where she came from. It's time to step up GISD!!!!!!!!!!

Lakeview is a excellent school! I'm a former student and I'm very pleased with the schools progression over the years. Although I don't agree with the taks test being the only thing taught during the year but that is something that's happening every where across Texas. There isn't another high school in Garland I would recommend other then Lakeview centennial High.

The administators don't care about disruptive behavior in the classroom. The TAKS scores would be much better if the students would stop yelling and start listening.

My daughter only attends this school because of the Law Program, which I am very please with. Aside from that I am dissatisfied with commuication from the teachers. I have emailed several different teachers various times with about a 30% response.

As the parent of 2 LC grads,I can honestly say that my boys got a good education. They are both in quality colleges as a result. LC could be an outstanding school, if they could get rid of the DART bus stop in front of the school. Parent involvement has always been a huge problem. The school has a lot of potential but the GISD Admin. Bldg really needs to step up!

Lakeview is a great school, with the one exception of the attendance office. They can not keep anything straight and dont be surprised if you get notified of truancy when your child was not even absent. They really need to hire new people for the office, but as of 3 years have yet to face this issue head on.

I think the school could be better with a lot of work.

I think that this school is going to be the best. They are starting a Peer Mediation and that will solve a lot of problems that occur within the school. I believe that most of the problems comes from not believing in the students. That is why people say negative things about this school.

Well this school has no good leadership. The students are free to do what they want and the teachers act like they just don't care. This school should just start over.

Lakeview Centennial is a great job and has great teachers for those in AP and honors classes.

I find Lakeview Centennial to be a spectacularly lackluster school. My daughter attends because of the dance magnet and drill team (GISD is a choice district). As I consistently receive communication from teachers showing they can't spell and punctuate - and my daughter seems to have only been taught specifically for the TAKS test for 4 years - she is at an academic disadvantage. I also find the staff to be less than parent-friendly and fully capable of open hostility, even though parents don't treat the staff in such a manner as to deserve the bad attitudes I see reflected. My daughter has developed a stress related health disorder - Lakeview is the biggest contributor. TAKS is an issue for two sections. We will consider home schooling for the senior year after we see summer TAKS results.

Students are not held responsible for their actions and the expectations seem really low.

After school programs are good with lots of activities. Drama program and music program are fairly progressive, but could use some more originality. Astronomy club is good.

Good enough school academically with lots of opportunities, but school spirit is poor and has a bad rep. I do not understand that, but makes it hard on the good kids.

Lakeview is a great school to place your kids in. It offers the highest quality of educatiom. It has a spectacular band, choir, and football team. The parents are very involved in the PTSA as well as the students.

All in all Lakeviwe isn't a bad school but it is not a very good school if your not going to be involved in the fine arts. The athletic and art programs aren't of vary good quality. P.S I'm a student there.

Great School, with great teachers. Smaller school with a bad rep. Nice principle.

Quality teachers spend their day teaching, not being one of the guys with their students. If only 4 out of 20 students passed the math benchmark (9th.grade), the students did not fail, the teacher failed them. Principals should monitor classes more carefully to make sure quality teaching is happening.

This school is over populated with problem students from other schools. It takes in all the students that other schools are not allowing to attend. The faculty is pretty nice, but I have had my problems with dealing with them too. Hopefully this school will wisen up and correct everything!

Very good school. Great programs for various academic levels. 75% of Faculty and staff that I have dealt with seem coorporative. Leadership appears to be solid and 'fair'.

This school does not care if my child makes it through or not. No leadership here at all.

This school is great no matter what these parents say! I put that there is a low parent envolement and maybe if they would come and held this would be a better school. This is the school where they send the left over children that no other school will take and i applaud them for that. And you dont know what kind of school this is until you go there! We have great teachers and not all of them are old and so experienced that its so over whelming... Most of them are getting their experience by teaching here, and we need younger teachers so students can feel more comfortable with them and that makes it easier to learn and more exited about school.
